New range of K86 fast-acting lock-out relays, 4-8-12 contacts with high-burden and manual set/reset.

 

The lockout relay (code K86 in the ANSI standards) also identified therein as lock-out relay or master trip relay, assumes a very important function as it acts as an intermediate element between one or more protection relays and one or more control devices /check. In this position, its job is both to multiply the number of elements actuated by any protection function, and to provide a "hold" function typical of bistable relays, which must be intentionally reset to allow the system to resume normal operation.

The name "lock-out relay" describes the logical function entrusted to this component, i.e. that of "locking" a part of the system and preventing any remote attempt to reactivate it until the reason for the switching has been ascertained.

In constructive terms, the lockout relay is a bistable, fast-acting relay, designed to have two stable states in the absence of power and, at the same time, guarantee a high switching speed.

To operate in harsh environments (such as energy transmission stations or production plants) and ensure correct management of inductive and direct current loads, this family of relays has been designed to have a high breaking capacity but also high performance.

Thanks to the combination of size, surface and materials, the relay contacts are performing and reliable even in switching very low loads (a few mA) without gold-plating treatments on the contact pads.

RGBV, RMBV relays are highly reliable relays with high electrical and safety performance. Among the most important options that can be foreseen in this range of latching relays we find the high-burden option.

The term high-burden refers to the concept of "high immunity" or "imperturbability" to those disturbances that can form along lines powered by direct current.

 

It is therefore important that a relay powered by long DC cables is immune to capacitive discharges due to earth dispersion of the power lines or the propagation of induced lightning strikes.

The same term "burden" also means "responsibility", and underlines the high responsibility for intervention / non-intervention of this type of component.

Available in versions with 4,8,12 SPDT contacts, with magnetic blow, contact position indicator and manual activation.
